P. Andrew Fleming and Louis Szura of Novack and Macey LLP, obtained summary judgment on behalf of their client, Patrick Hughes, protecting his title to certain commercial real estate in Chicago. Petitioner Interstate Funding, Inc. sought issuance of a tax deed for Hughes’ property, based upon an alleged failure to pay back taxes. At a summary judgment hearing on the matter, before Judge Robert W. Bertucci, P. Andrew Fleming successfully argued that the Tax Redemption Department of the Cook County Clerk’s Office had wrongfully refused Hughes’ redemption of the outstanding taxes. The decision enables Hughes to retain title to the property.
