
Rich is a commercial litigation and trial attorney representing a variety of clients in disputes in state and federal courts in Illinois and throughout the nation. Rich devotes about half of his practice to the litigation and trial of energy disputes on behalf of electricity and natural gas wholesalers and retailers, oil and gas partnerships, energy commodity and derivatives traders and Independent System Operators. The remainder of Rich’s practice includes real estate and construction disputes, employment-related issues (such as challenging or enforcing non-competition agreements), partnership disputes, contractual disputes and other general commercial litigation. Rich has also successfully litigated claims involving federal causes of action, including civil RICO, ERISA and employment discrimination.
Rich’s practice is based in Chicago, but tends to be geographically varied. For instance, Rich has represented clients in disputes located in Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and other locales.
Rich is a member of the American Bar Association Sections of Litigation and Energy. Richard is also a member of the Advisory Board and Technology Committee of The Institute for Energy Law.
Rich grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago, in Wheaton, Illinois. He now lives with his wife, Jennifer, and his daughter, Kaitlynn, in Evanston, Illinois. Before joining Novack and Macey, Rich was an associate at Fortson, Bentley and Griffin, PA in Athens, Georgia, where Rich attended law school.
