BIOGRAPHY

Monte Mann represents clients in high-stakes litigation concerning a wide variety of subject matters as indicated above, with a particular emphasis on litigation related to partnerships, closely held corporations and the commercial real estate industry. With respect to commercial real estate, he has represented, among others, real estate developers, owners, real estate partnerships and general and limited partners therein, REITs, brokers, property managers, project managers, facility managers and some of the world’s largest real estate services firms.

Chicago Magazine (February 2008) recognized Monte as a "Rising Star," and one of the Top Young Commercial Litigation Attorneys in Illinois. The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and the Chicago Lawyer Magazine have described him as "one of the top litigators in the city [of Chicago]." In 2005, he was included in "40 under 40," a list of Illinois attorneys to watch published by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.

In what the Chicago Tribune called an "extraordinary ruling" in 2007, the Circuit Court of Cook County appointed Monte Mann as its Independent Counsel to investigate the role played by the indicted law firm Milberg Weiss Bershad & Shulman in finding plaintiffs to bring a shareholders’ derivative action against Boeing. This prestigious court appointment also was covered in the national press including but not limited to the Wall Street Journal.

Monte has cross-examined some of Wall Street's most powerful players including Jamie Dimon, Chief Executive Officer of JPMorgan Chase and Howard Milstein, Chairman and CEO of New York Private Bank & Trust and Emigrant Savings Bank.

Others have described Monte Mann and the way he practices as follows:

  • "He is one of the hardest working and brightest people that I know, and he is incredibly committed to his clients and his legal practice . . . . Monte shows amazing poise, judgment and advocacy skills." -- Marc Lisker, General Counsel of MSD Capital, Michael Dell's private equity firm in New York City.
  • "I am never concerned about whether a litigation matter is being handled properly when Monte is the lead attorney. He is pragmatic and is the epitome of a 'business persons' lawyer." -- Alvin Marr, General Counsel of Midas Int'l Corp.
  • "His scholarship is first rate [and] he is brutally efficient. There are no wasted motions, no wasted words, no blind alleys and none of the nonsense oft times associated with litigation." -- John Ambrister, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel for real estate developer The Beitler Co.

Mr. Mann also has successfully represented inmates to correct sentencing errors and redress civil rights violations suffered during incarceration. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Art Institute of Chicago's Evening Associates, which is committed to increasing awareness of art and the resources of the Chicago Art Institute, as well as raising funds for audience development programming at the Art Institute. He is originally from the Chicago area.
